The NLTD Program is an accredited specialized volunteer therapy dog Animal Assisted Intervention program designed to enhance the quality of life and provide disaster comfort for those within our community in Gallatin County.
Our therapy dogs are carefully screened via our dog trainers and are insured, certified, and accredited. All dogs are certified parasite-free and current on standard vaccinations. Our teams train together weekly and receive specialized trainings for deployed settings and endure rigorous testing trials. Surpassing the AKC Canine Good Citizen and Therapy Tests, our dog trainers expect our dogs to be on par with National Crisis standards.
Our volunteer handlers undergo intensive personal training and certifications to ensure the highest standards of care and professionalism, along with thorough background investigations. Our handlers are trained in disease safety, HIPAA and CDC compliance, Dog CPR and Psychological First Aid, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), FEMA Site Deployment, Non-violent communication, and more.
Our dogs and handlers receive top level training from our diverse training staff at Montana Murray Kennels of Belgrade, MT. Our training staff works and trains with service dogs, scent dogs, K9 Force Dogs, etc., and we draw off the depth and breath of all they have to offer to train our outstanding therapy dogs. Visit MMK for all of your training, boarding, and grooming needs!
Check out our partner, Dog Tag Buddies! DTB partners veterans suffering from hidden injuries with rescue dogs all over the state. This program gives both the veteran and the dog a chance to lead a more purposeful, fulfilling life. DTB is the only Assistance Dogs International certified member in Montana!
